OneMetal.com REVIEW:
The Walking Dead #75

Why does this issue deserve a standalone review? Simply put, this is the first time anything in the Walking Dead comic universe has been done in colour. Oh and not just any colour, but the stunning, mind-blowingly gorgeous artwork of Ryan Ottley, better known for his work on Robert Kirkman’s other (and in many ways superior) book, Invincible.

But don’t let my overly-enthusiastic ramblings on the visual style of that part of the comic fool you, because sadly, the entire issue is not in colour. Actually, the entire ‘real’ part of the issue is in black and white as normal, drawn as ever competently by Charlie Adlard. The rest is fairly standard (of late) Walking Dead, with people all kind of milling about while we and they wait for something truly earth-shattering to happen.

You see, a 75th issue of any comic should mean something – it’s generally considered a milestone – and that’s why we get the treat at the end of the issue. The treat does exactly what it is meant to do and elevates the comic above what it would have been without it, which is just OK. Let’s be honest, The Walking Dead has been ‘just OK’ for quite a while now, pretty much ever since the Governor rode around and killed most of the protagonists what seems like a hundred issues ago.

But that’s not the point of this, the point is that you should go out and buy this issue, just for the colour non-canon hilarity at the end of it. It seems like this part will not be included in any trade paperback collections, and it really is something you deserve to purchase for yourself, a hilarious and colourful aside. Two words you could never use to describe The Walking Dead before now.

Bottom Line

Worth it purely for the colour 'what if?' addition at the end of the comic.
