Nuclear Blast Europe-signed ‘zombiecore’ quintet Callejon have released the video for ‘Kinder der Nacht’ from their upcoming album, Videodrom. Here’s the video:
Now, I run the risk of being excommunicated from OneMetal for saying this, but… I’m kinda getting tired of the pop-cultural obsession with zombies now. Don’t get me wrong – I still love the movies of George A. Romero, I still laugh maniacally at Shaun Of The Dead, I even still like Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn Of The Dead. My copy of Max Brooks’ ‘World War Z’ has been thumbed through many a time, and while I haven’t gotten around to seeing Zombieland yet, I imagine I’ll like it a lot. But seriously – ‘zombiecore’? That’s a genre now? It wouldn’t be so bad if the music did have its own sound (it doesn’t – Callejon, despite their protestations to the contrary, play middle-of-the-road metalcore) and the band actually looked like zombies (they don’t – in the video, they look more like self-harming Juggalos).
Add to that the fact that the video itself is a headache-inducing jumble of ceaselessly jerking and zooming camerawork, oversaturated colours and film-stock-in-a-blender editing, and I think I can safely say that Callejon just killed my zombie boner.
What do you guys think?
