Grab a rake and plant yourself in front of PopCap’s tower defense game that sprawls bloom and doom … on your lawn. Plants Vs. Zombies challenges your green thumb and hones your zombie extermination skills. Players harvest sunflower power and command an earth-friendly army, saving your house one recycled undead at a time. These plants pack quite a head chop, and thankfully the game’s foundation holds just as well—rain, shine, or zombie.
Plants Vs. Zombies rolls out the green carpet but not the welcome mat for waves of brain-chomping foes. Cheerful humor seeps into the quirky animation as the hungry, hungry zombie invaders brave the sun, crawl by moonlight, swim through murky fog, and bungee jump onto your vulnerable rooftop and yards. Your pack-rat neighbor, Crazy Dave, feeds you tactical support from afar and supplies plenty of extra plants and tools to fortify your chlorophyll-fueled arsenal. Every round recompenses your hard work with a new seed packet or bonus item, and each sequence’s final battle plays differently.

The premise is simple and adorably lovable, but those eccentric zombies carry a few tricks up their jacket sleeves. Catchy music streams over advancing zombie hordes that demand your quick thinking and reflexes, and tensions sprout high as you pull bad weeds from your offensive and defensive jungle. Even so, you’ll reap thickets of colorful enjoyment from Plants Vs. Zombies, which blossoms with its own versatile creativity.
Different stages reveal new arenas of zombie toughness, but the difficulty skyrockets when you move the siege onto shingled territory. Frustration quickly mounts on your roof’s cramped locale and uneven terrain, and a frankly awesome zombie mastermind offers an appetizer-sized threat in comparison. At least you can savor a bouncy music video sing-along during the game credits. While you can’t pick and choose levels to replay, the game lets you feast on the action with all your plants and equipment intact. Plus, various mini-games, puzzles, and other optional modes provide zen fun or evoke zombie rampages depending on your mood. Limbs will drop and heads will roll for hours either way. Day or night, these kooky zombies are ready to party.

You won't stub your toe on many pointy lawn ornaments with this zombie-approved must buy. With good tunes and a solid beat, Plants Vs. Zombies flourishes as an incredibly original and downright refreshing zombie game. More brains, please.

First Mini ninjas now this? Where do you find these games? Cute video games?
I can’t wait to play this! you sold me at “Zombie”!
Stephanie Carmichael says:
I’m surprised you haven’t heard of PVZ, Henry! I was actually a bit late to the party on this one, but PopCap Games were good enough to fill me in.
Mark Dryden says:
PopCap have a habit of creating some very cute and very polished games that are a joy to play and watch, Peggle and Rocket Mania come to mind. BTW is this just on Steam or is it on XBLA already?
@Henry – Mini Ninjas is an awesome game. OK its aimed at a different age group and a seasoned gamer will consider it pretty simple, but I can reliably confirm that my seven year old loves it.
Henry says:
@Steph Yeah… I don’t know where I’ve been these days (or years). I have been doing a lot more reading then games. But I am going to check this out.
@Mark – I’m starting to warm up to MN. It’s clearly not aimed for 21 year old dudes like me, I do have to agree. I guess I wanted more and didn’t get what I expect a game of that caliber. But it’s a pretty awesome.
Stephanie Carmichael says:
@Mark I believe you can buy it on both if you like. :)
