OneMetal.com NEWS:
Enjoy Image Comics’ Horror Fest This April

Whoa, did it just get cold in here? Image Comics recently announced two frightful comics for your reading pleasure this April. But spring is about Easter egg hunts, flowers, and chocolate candy rabbits, right? Think again: Rivaling Halloween, the seasonal change brings along zombies and the disturbing rabbit symbolism that only I and a few other pop culture oddballs seem to sincerely recognize.

First on April 14, creators Nathan Edmondson (Olympus) and Brett Weldele (Surrogates) collaborate with The Light, a five-issue survival horror (hm, that seems to be a theme lately) mini-series about a strange virus that corrupts anyone looking into an electric light. Gritty and full of action, The Light follows a handful of survivors, including a father and his blindfolded daughter, who manage to flee the town while the infected burn alive.

“The Light is everything I love about horror combined into one story,” writer Edmondson explained. “From a terror rooted in something everyone can relate to and broken protagonists doing their best to overcome absolute despair, this is the comic I’ve been wanting to read. Brett brings it to life with stunning visuals that grow in intensity as the story progresses.”

Then, two weeks later comes Splatterman, a graphic novella by Jimmy Palmiotti (The Pro, Back to Brooklyn), Justin Gray (Jonah Hex), and illustrator Giancarlo Caracuzzo (The Last Resort). The 72-page full color book features the story of two comic creators, who after nailing the publishing deal of a lifetime put their imaginations together and create a supreme serial killer horror that goes Frankenstein all over their newfound success.

“Every creator can tell you their best characters take on a life of their own, and Splatterman shows how it can happen in the most frightening of ways,” Palmiotti described. “Splatterman is definitely a worst case situation of life imitating art and we’re lucky enough to have an illustrator like Giancarlo who can combine a setting everyone can relate to with a twist everyone can fear.”

Top Cow’s Wanted colorist Paul Mounts, letterer Bill Tortolini, and cover artist Tim Bradstreet add their talents to the mere $7 buy.

The concept behind Splatterman reminds me somewhat of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Half’ – and I loved that book, so I may well have to check this out!
