OneMetal.com NEWS:
6 Days in Call of Duty 4 : Entering Cinemanila International Film Festival

This year the Cinemanila International Film Festival has taken the brave step of creating a Machinima Category (animations or films created within an already existing 3D world, typically game engines) and anti-war film ’6 Days in Call of Duty 4′ looks like a likely candidate for the accolade. The short film was created by artists J. Joshua Diltz and Joseph Delappe; Delappe you may remember for his in-game war protests in the US Military’s free shooting game ‘America’s Army’ where Delappe, rather than playing the game, invested his time entering the name, rank and date of death of all US Military personnel killed in the Iraq conflict.

6 Days uses actual footage taken from six days of edited online play from Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare and can be viewed as a sympathetic take on the possibilities that the ill-fated ’6 Days in Fallujah’ game could have exhibited. Splicing three screens, one using a static camera viewing over the ‘Ambush’ map, another with an on-the-ground roving camera and the final screen showing the console, constantly updating with the various in game deaths.

If you are a Modern Warfare fanboy then you probably aren’t going to take a lot out of the actual film. There are no great sniper shots, no awesome pwnage nor ninja knifings; it is simply snapshot of the monotony, brutality and randomness that is war, albeit through the medium of a first person shooter. Admittedly on a second viewing you get a sense of what the creators wanted to express and through some choice sound editing and interesting camera angles they do create a meaningful and sombre video. On the other hand, you could argue that none of the materials used have been created by them nor acted out or directed by them and therefore all they’ve done is mangle up a video. For me, it was just a sad reminder about how much I suck online on Modern Warfare.

Results will be published on October 20th and you can vote for your favourite video just here.
