There is no denying that the original Star Wars trilogy made a significant mark on popular culture. In any public place or social gathering, a simple Wookie war-bellow will often be greeted by similar hollers and remarks like ‘After all, he’s only a Wookie’ in a stiff English accent; rather than ‘WTF is that guy on?’. With the release of the prequel trilogy, which to be honest wasn’t all that bad but was admittedly less than stellar, it is easy to look back to the original trilogy with a certain degree of nostalgia.
This is something that Star Wars Uncut has jumped onto by co-ordinating an online effort to recreate the first movie, Episode IV ‘A New Hope’, by allowing fans to claim a 15 second chunk and recreate it in any style they want. Live action, stop motion, CGI animation or just plain old finger puppets have been utilised and assuming they come up to scratch, they will go into the final cut. Luckily, progress has been going strong and Star Wars Uncut have released a trailer…
Now my first instinct is ‘Wow’ tinged with ‘What? Honestly?’. But on subsequent viewing you start to feel the strong association is shared and the love that many, many people across the globe have for this classic. And in some ways this rebalances the dignity of the film after the, admittedly very funny, send ups such as ‘Blue Harvest’ by Family Guy and the Robot Chicken specials.
With 305 scenes finished and accepted, along with virtually all of the other scenes with submittals, it looks like this innovative and unconventional vision of the film will be out in the open soon enough. I’ll certainly be watching this and on the plus side, I have a good feeling about this.

Definitely looks like it could be a giggle – although watching it the entirety of the way through could possibly make the novelty value dissipate after a while. Certainly an intriguing idea though!
