Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight franchise, have set out to remake the 1986 fantasy cult classic Highlander. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway who previously worked on the 2008 ‘Iron Man’, have been hired to write the script. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz are also on-board.
The original film directed by Russell Mulcahy was an undeniable classic. Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and killer soundtrack. Not to mention the title track by the legendary Queen. The story was great, the premise was crazy and the fun factor was off the chart. In 1992 Highlander spawned a TV Series staring Adrian Paul that ran to 6 seasons, and was well received by sci-fi fans. There was also an Animé adaptation.
And so I adopt the familiar concern and and guilty hope, that accompanies the potential rebirth of a favoured franchise. … don’t lose your head.

Philip Whitehouse says:
My favourite moment in the Highlander canon – Sean Connery, playing a Spaniard, speaking the following line without any attempt at covering up his Scottish accent: “I am Juan Shanchez Villa Lobosh Ramiresh, chief metallurgisht to the King of Shpain – and I am at your shervice.”

Noooo! Highlander the movie, was very much a product of it’s time – especially with it’s close relationship with the Queen soundtrack. I’ll admit some things from this era have been remade well (BSG, Doctor Who) but I just can’t see this one. The sequels were all rubbish, never watched the series but know that it was very much a spin-off rather than a continuation. What really gets me is that Hollywood seems to be moving from remaking really old stuff (fair enough – time has passed, most kids won’t wantch b&w movies etc) to remaking recent media – soon they’ll be remaking movies that haven’t even been launched!!!

I’ve seen the anime movie…that was actually pretty good…
But i swear to god if Macleod starts sparkling…or MCR do the soundtrack i’m….gonna…do something not very nice.
