OneMetal.com NEWS:
Modern Warfare 2 : Domination video and new multiplayer details

Gathering intelligence on one of the hottest anticipated games of the year is a long and arduous task, admittedly we may not be as conspicuous as we would like wearing our ghilly suit whilst using our computers, but we like to think we’re in the right frame of mind.

Infinity Ward gave another multiplayer demo yesterday with a shaky cam video and some stellar screenshots. The video shows some Domination gameplay, it uses the same map we saw in the previous ‘Flag Runner‘ multiplayer demo but isn’t as packed with some of the revealing features as the last video -- although we did see what is involved with the Predator Missile :)

In addition to that there are some great screenshots that expand on the RPG elements of the multiplayer, but as a quick synopsis here’s what we saw…

  • An accolade system based upon your overall performance. I’m guessing I’ll probably be getting a ‘cannon fodder’ award or something to do with hindering the enemy by them tripping over my corpses.
  • Secondary weapons have now be expanded to include machine pistols, shotguns and ‘gulp’ grenade launchers (similar to the M79 grenade launcher).
  • Configurable list of Killstreak awards, where you can pick upto three entries. These are…
    • 3 Kills : UAV
    • 4 Kills : Care Package (probably not going to be a basket of fruit)
    • 4 Kills : Counter UAV
    • 5 Kills : Sentry Gun (gulp)
    • 5 Kills : Predator Missile
    • 6 Kills : Precision Airstrike (I think + Possibly with the ability to go through buildings?)
    • 7 Kills : Attack Helicopter
    • 9 Kills : Pave Low (I think + maybe a nastier version of the Attack Helicopter?)
    • 11 Kills : AC130 (oh baby)
  • Primary Grenade section is changed to ‘Equipment’ and includes Frag Grenade, Semtex, Throwing Knife, Tactical Insertion (you choose where to spawn) and Blast Shield
  • A new perk called ‘Commando’ that increases the melee distance for knife fighting.
  • And a fourth section (possibly another perk or maybe costume?) with the entry CopyCat?

Now being pragmatic, it looks like the multiplayer is shaping up really nice and that the perks, killstreaks and weapons are going to be perfectly balanced. In reality we are just like a five year old girl, hopping from foot to foot like she needs a wee; that’s how excruciating the wait is going to be.

We’ll keep you briefed as Intel comes in….

UPDATE :: UPDATE :: UPDATE

Well it seems every man and his dog got a hands on with Modern Warfare 2 yesterday. I’ve just checked out IGN’s coverage and some of their videos that feature some different mulitplayer maps and demostrate some of the other perks. Definately worth a looksee , but as a quick heads-up…

  • The Care-Package is a random air-drop that contains a random killstreak perk. The disadvantage is that any player (including the opposition) can access the supply case.
  • Additional perks are; Hardline (Killstreaks can be achieved with one less kill so a UAV jammer is achieved after 2 kills), Painkiller (gives a health boost when you first spawn), Copycat (steals the class of the person who last killed you), Bling (allows two weapon attachments) and Scavenger (Full resupply from dead bodies).

Wish I still had an XBox in the house so I could get in on this – CoD 4 sucked an unhealthy number of hours of my life, though, so maybe it’s not such a bad thing…
