Finally, we are one step closer to seeing that Hulk VS Whinnie the Pooh movie we have all waited so long for. Yes that’s right, Walt Disney Entertainment is to buy Marvel Entertainment in a shares and cash deal valued at $4bn (£2.5bn).
Disney will take over ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man and the X-Men. Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company said: -
Robert Iger We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation.
Robert Iger This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories.
Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer
Ike Perlmutter Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.
Ike Perlmutter This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.
There may be some serious fallout for Marvel video game titles from Activision, Sega, THQ, and the upcoming MMO from Gazillion. And whilst the future Marvel vs. Capcom might be in jepody, this news at least opens the door for Marvel VS Hannah Montana, and lets be honest, we would all buy it.

Tin-Tin says:
nice do you think all the future marvel films will go ahead ?
William Ham says:
I don’t think that they would stop making the movies, for the most part I think Marvel has done well from them. If anything I think we might start to see more movies.
franoverbury says:
…as long as they don’t make an alien vs. predator style amalgamation and end up with fluffy bambified x-men! that’d be a little bit weirdy
Mark Wrigley says:
My kids will just be chuffed about all the Marvel stuff they will be able to buy at the Disney Store now…
David Cox says:
Given the cash cow that Marvel represents ($4billion is no small change, even for Disney), I’d expect all the current Marvel films on the slate to continue into production. Whether they’re subject to interference from the House Of Mouse (as with previous fraught relations with Pixar and Studio Ghibli, for example) remains to be seen….
Peri says:
I am most probably wrong (and i really hope i am) but i can see Disney squeezing the life out of Marvel characters by over using them…
