OneMetal.com’s intrepid reporters caught up with 36 Crazyfists chief axe-man Steve Holt prior to the show with Twelve Tribes at Nottingham. After some well humoured beard banter we sat down backstage to discuss life on the road, tiny drummers, being too hammered to play and record labels.
OneMetal:First off then Steve, How’s the tour going ?
Steve:It’s going awesome man, I think were seven, eight shows in, something like that. It’s awesome, playing all the little venues so it’s really cool.
OneMetal:What’s the theory behind playing all the intimate venues?
Steve: Ah well we just wanted to get , well they’re fun, but beyond that even it’s nice to get to all the smaller towns that we don’t normally get to. It’s usually just like the big ones, and we were like “lets do a small club tour” and we thought that would be such a cool idea.
OneMetal:Yeah, but you normally play Rock City anyway..
Steve:Yeah, yeah
OneMetal:It must be like a homecoming.
Steve:Yeah definitely, it’s cool.
OneMetal:What’s the differences between the UK and US audiences, you seem to love it over here. And it can’t be just the beer?
Steve:Nah, but that’s part of it (laughs) I don’t know man it just seems the people in America are a little more clique orientated, over here they are just open to whatever. Whatever’s good they like you know? In America it’s really cliquey, they’re just less open in America I think.
OneMetal:The Download festival, can we expect to see you guys there ?
Steve:Probably not. We’re going to finish this tour and then start writing the new record. We’re going to get right back in there and get another one out.
OneMetal:In terms of your current record, Roadrunner decided not to release it in the States, what was the story behind that?
Steve:They had just signed like Megadeth and Hatebreed, and a bunch of bigger bands from over there, Black Label Society, and they wanted to wait and put it out this year. We were like “nah, that aint happening” so we went and did a licensing deal with DRT and that allowed it to come out finally in November.
